Anness Mushroom Anchor
Whether securing a small sailboat or a 200 foot power vessel, Anne’s hurricane-tested anchors represent the ultimate in permanent moorings for owners who insist on maximum protection.
Anne’s Anchors Superior Design & Materials
Originally designed on Cape Cod, Anne’s mushroom boat anchors are manufactured in the USA from custom quality steel instead of cast iron and are available in weights up to 2,000 pounds. Anne’s all-steel construction mushroom anchors offer several advantages over imported, cast iron models including greater material strength and more holding power. Presented below are design attributes that highlight the superiority of Anne’s Mushroom Anchors.
Cast Iron
Small eyelet wears out quickly
No counterweight
Bell 16,000 psi tensile strength
Breaks in bell are irreparable
Mooring & Gear Cleaning, Repairs and Storage
Sub Meter GPS placement positioning & lost mooring locating
All-Steel
Extra wear area
Heavy steel counterweight
70,000 psi tensile strength
Anchor repaired by welding

Anne’s Mushroom Anchors feature a wider bell diameter, more aggressive biting edge, plus a heavy counterweight to hold the anchor at the correct set position. Absence of a counterweight allows the anchor to align into a vertical position that can cause the chain to wrap around an anchor’s shaft and lose holding power.
Additionally, Anne’s Anchors are designed to eliminate corrosion problems often associated with cast iron mushroom failure. Also, by welding both sides of the bell and counterweight, formed joints have the same 70,000 psi tensile strength as the anchor’s base steel material.
From the design comparisons and testimonial noted above, it’s understandable why well-informed boaters choose Anne’s Mushroom Anchors for the utmost in performance and safety. Call or visit our Mooring Shop… we’ll be glad to answer all your questions.
Proper Seating of Anne’s Mushroom Anchors
For more than 150 years, a well-seated mushroom anchor has been the standard permanent mooring of choice at most east coast harbors including SouthCoast, MA and Rhode Island.
Anne’s Mushroom Anchors accommodate bottom conditions exceptionally well which are likely to be a combination of mud and sand with varying amounts of rock and clay. Accordingly, most Harbormasters specify mushrooms anchor moorings where the long-established pull test rule of thumb that “a mushroom anchor will hold 10 times its weight” is still valid today.
Mushroom anchors of all kinds seat readily in soft sand seabeds, but must be jetted in mooring locations where the sand is so hard that the mushroom bounces along the seafloor. Along with local Harbormaster requirements, Pioneer technicians will advise you on the proper seating method given the bottom conditions in your mooring area.
